Our Story

The Santal culture is one of the oldest and most vibrant indigenous traditions in India, filled with music, festivals, rituals, and a deep connection to nature. Yet, much of this knowledge is scattered and slowly fading.

Santals.com was created with a simple vision—to document and share Santal culture in a way that is accessible to everyone. From traditional weddings to folk stories, from food habits to daily life, this platform aims to become a living archive of Santal identity.

About Santal People

The Santal (Santhal) tribe is one of the largest Indigenous communities of India, with significant populations in Bangladesh and smaller communities in Nepal and Bhutan. In India, they are primarily concentrated in Jharkhand, followed by West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Assam. The Santals have a rich cultural heritage, with distinct customs, traditions, festivals, and social practices preserved over generations. Many follow the Sarna/Sari faith, centered on nature worship and ancestral traditions. They speak Santali, the most widely spoken language of the Munda branch of the Austroasiatic language family, and it is recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
